After last year’s success, the 2026 fair will have around 30 stalls offering thousands of rare, collectable and second-hand books, maps, manuscripts and ephemera. The large number of exhibitors means that a variety of subjects will be available, including, but not limited to, books on Natural History, Transport, Topography and History, as well as Classic Literature, Modern First Editions, Art and Children’s Illustrated books, something to suit everyone.

Artist Roo Waterhouse will also have a full range of Bookshelf Art Cards, with images from original Shelf Portrait oil paintings, featuring treasured and iconic book collections.

The fair is organised by Peter and Thais, from The Frome Bookshop alongside William Goodsir and the PBFA – Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association. The first PBFA fair happened in 1972 and today it holds more than 40 book fairs covering the length and breadth of the country. The first Frome Book Fair was organised by Karen Jakobsen in 2016. Since then, the fair has grown, attracting a large variety of booksellers from the West Country and beyond.

“Frome has a busy Arts & Culture calendar and has supported our bookshop for the past eight years, so it made sense for us to get involved in the organisation of the fair, alongside the PBFA”. “When we organise the book fair, we have book lovers, old and young, in mind and we always aim to cater for the seasoned collector, looking for the Holy Grail in their collection and young budding readers, those who might turn into serious collectors later in life”.

Peter has been selling books since 2012, when he started at Portobello Market, and Thais joined him in 2014. Bookselling, however, has been in the family since the 1960s when both his parents also started selling books in Goldborne Road. Both his brothers are also booksellers.

After moving to Frome in 2015 and trading at The Frome Independent, Peter and Thais have opened The Frome Bookshop (alongside Noel Crack
, who is now retired) in 2018, the same year their son was born, both of which deepened their roots to beautiful Frome.
