A New Chapter for The Frome Bookshop
Open since May 2018 The Frome Bookshop celebrated its 5th Anniversary with a complete make over.
Following his plans of retirement, Noel Crack now has a small corner of the shop where he will continue to showcase a selection of original stock, including Natural History Books, Birds, Entomology, Local Books including books on Frome, Bristol, Wiltshire and Somerset.
Peter and Noel met at The Frome Independent Market back in 2015 when both had stalls at the market. They also did many PBFA Book Fairs together, from local fairs all the way to York for The York National Fair, held every year in September.
Peter and Thais, from Peter Foster Books, will have the rest of the shop, including the new back room with a selection of Art, Photography, Architecture and Film. They also specialize in First Editions, Fine Bindings and Antiquarian books. "Having spent the past 3 years buying many collections of books, we intend to keep refreshing the shop stock to keep things interesting for our regular customers. We have enough books to fill the shop twice over so having more space will make life much easier for us". Buying books is a very important part of the business and one that Peter really enjoys.
Peter has grown up in a family of booksellers in London so was always surrounded by beautifully illustrated books, paintings and works of art in general. His family had a small holiday cottage in Wiltshire so he has known Frome since he was a child and spent many a day on the old cattle market when it was at the car park by the Cheese & Grain or splashing his feet in the small river running down Cheap Street with his sister & brothers. Thais came all the way from Brazil more than 14 years ago, and while having a degree in Psychology, she was soon sucked into the book trade, being responsible for all the behind the scenes work at their small business.
Having lived in Frome since 2015, Peter & Thais have a 5-year-old son named Benjamin who already show signs of being an avid collector. Benjamin loves to come with us to the markets and car boot sales, where he'll buy books and spot other shiny things. He loves to be in the shop and to assist them in their work. The bookshop also allows Peter to express his creative side as he is an artist and will occasionally be showing some of his work in there.
